East Africa

Rwanda

Land of a thousand hills

Overview

Clean, green and superbly organised, Rwanda has become one of Africa's most impressive destinations. Kigali is the continent's tidiest capital, Volcanoes National Park offers world-class gorilla trekking, and Lake Kivu's shoreline is made for slow days. It's an easy, safe self-contained trip - or a natural extension to a Uganda itinerary.

Visa Requirements

Citizens of all countries receive a visa on arrival; African Union, Commonwealth and Francophonie citizens enter free of charge. EAC citizens travel visa-free, and the East Africa Tourist Visa covers Rwanda too.

Best Time to Visit

June–September and December–February (dry seasons) for trekking; the country is genuinely a year-round destination.

Currency

Rwandan Franc (RWF)

Weather

Mild and spring-like year-round, 19–27°C, thanks to the altitude
