One of the most common questions our visa desk gets is simple: where can I go without applying for a visa first? The answer is better than most travellers expect - a Ugandan passport opens more doors than its reputation suggests, especially across Africa.
Visa-free: East Africa and beyond
Within the East African Community - Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and the DRC - Ugandans travel visa-free, and for Kenya and Rwanda you can even cross with just a national ID. Beyond the EAC, countries including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Eswatini, Lesotho, Ghana and Mauritius admit Ugandan passport holders without a prior visa for short stays.
Further afield, several Caribbean and Asian destinations - among them Barbados, Dominica, Malaysia and Singapore - offer visa-free entry for short visits, making them surprisingly easy holiday picks.
Visa on arrival and eVisa
A second tier of destinations issues visas at the border or online in a few days: Ethiopia, Egypt, Madagascar, Mozambique, Seychelles, Comoros, Maldives, Cambodia and more. These need little planning - usually just a passport photo, a fee and an onward ticket.
Always reconfirm before you book: entry rules change with little notice, and airlines enforce them at check-in. Our visa advisory team checks the current requirements for your exact route, free of charge.
